Haroon Hashmi focuses his practice on healthcare and regulatory law, audits and investigations, and civil and criminal defense litigation.

Mr. Hashmi has profound experience working with private healthcare providers on matters relating to public relations, health insurance reimbursements, legislative changes, and regulatory compliance updates.. Through those experiences, he maintains a thorough understanding of the considerations in operating healthcare facilities and of working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurances. Based on that understanding, Mr. Hashmi has advised private corporations and individuals on both transactional and litigation matters relating to health law.

During law school, Mr. Hashmi received training at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida where he worked on a number of cases involving healthcare fraud, whistleblower actions, and medical malpractice defense for federally funded healthcare providers. With respect to health law, Mr. Hashmi has profound knowledge about government audits and investigations, False Claims Act and Qui Tam litigation, Medicare and commercial insurance reimbursement standards, and Stark Act and Anti-Kickback statute rules and exceptions. Working on behalf of the government in such cases also give Mr. Hashmi an exceptional understanding of dealing with investigative and law enforcement agencies involved in detecting and investigating healthcare fraud including the ZPIC, RAC, FBI, Office of the Inspector General – Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service. His experiences and training in health law make him well prepared to handle such matters.

Mr. Hashmi’s training also includes litigating civil and criminal cases that may arise out of Medicare investigations. He has a strong understanding of dealing with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Department of Justice in discovery and subsequent stages of healthcare litigation and has received special litigation training as an intern for a prominent Dallas County Judge,. Mr. Hashmi’s experience award him a strong understanding of all stages of the litigation process.

Mr. Hashmi also received extensive training in criminal prosecution at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office for the 11th Judicial District of Florida where he served as the only legal intern for the Assistant Chief of the Career Criminals and Organized Crime Division. Mr. Hashmi worked on cases relating to almost all types of major crimes including some of South Florida’s most highly publicized homicide and gang cases.

Mr. Hashmi graduated, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, and is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
